Style: His look is deliberately disheveled. For all his outwardly careless image, he takes great pains to maintain this look - with hair products to rival a prom queen. He bites his nails short, and they often have a coat of black polish. He typically wears a couple chains around his neck, sometimes with a lock, sometimes with his father's dog tags. He is pierced and wants to get (at least) a tattoo, but for now he has to make due with the piercings he and his friends did on each other.

He is intelligent (was in ‘honors classes’), but deliberately stupid. He is quick to do things that better judgment would advise against – like jumping out of a moving car on a dare... Despite the trouble he manages to get himself into, he can't help being a generally good kid, and knows how to be polite to superiors. He has been raised with a strong moral code, and without conscious thought he follows many of the rituals he learned from his father - such as making his bed and keeping his room clean enough to pass military inspection. Despite this, he hates being tied down, constrained, or having to wait. He also gets bored with endless details - he'd rather get to the point. Free-spirited and adventurous, he is eager to experience new things (skydiving is his current ambition). He has a bit of a daredevil streak - he’s had his share of broken bones and youthful accidents.
He is good-humored and optimistic, but can be a careless superficial jerk. He uses his honesty sometimes to keep people at a distance through tactlessness - in some cases he is deliberately outrageous. He can be impatient, and gets frustrated or aggravated with people fairly easily. He tends toward boastful about his personal life – especially his misdeeds. He can sometimes be (or seem to be) exhibitionist, though this is often a cover to keep people from getting close. He lets everyone see what he does, but very few people get to see what he is thinking or who he really is.

He is an 'army brat'; his father is in the army and is currently serving in Iraq. A result of his father's military career, his family moved many times, particularly in the last few years. He was born in Germany and grew up on army bases in Georgia and North Carolina. He spent most of what would be Junior High in Germany, returning to America in time for 9/11, during which time he was living on a base in Virginia. Shortly thereafter, his father was deployed to Afghanistan for a year. When his father returned, the family spent a year in Kansas until his father was redeployed, this time to Iraq. Facing a long deployment, his mother moved them from the army base and in with her parents (his grandparents) in Santa Monica.
As a youth, he always seemed to get into scraps. He broke his arm jumping off the roof at a neighbor’s house when he was 7. He cracked his head open on a light post after playing a spinning game when he was 9. Since returning from Germany, he has been involved with pranks such as stealing street signs (a “Garrett Rd” sign hangs above his desk), spiking the refreshments at a school dance, putting detergent in the town square fountain, breaking into the school to play basketball, cutting classes (to hang out and smoke with friends, and other times to go get fast food in the middle of the day). He's been arrested for underage drinking; he didn't actually get caught *with* alcohol, but he and his friends were all clearly drunk and/or ‘altered’.
He began smoking while he lived in Germany (when he was all of 11); that habit gave him an easy way to connect with an instant group of friends at each subsequent school he was moved to - the boys who smoked in bathrooms, who were by default, the ‘troublemakers’. He began to smoke pot and experiment with other party drugs when he lived in Kansas, and began supplying at parties soon after.
Since he moved to California, the battles with his mother (and father when in town) got worse, and he was kicked out of the house a few times. He crashed with friends, but obviously was without money… he’d randomly dealt to supply his friends before, but began dealing more regularly so he had money when he was on his own. He started with E and party drugs at the Inferno, and gradually increased his dealing… Except Scott caught him and confronted him. The pencil in Garrett’s hand flipped to a cigarette, and Scott noticed, reporting to Warren they had a mutant dealing in the club… Now on the club’s radar, Garrett was promoted, eventually being promoted to head dealer in charge of keeping the club’s supply safe.
