[edit] Powers
Karolina possesses the mutant to absorb solar rays from the sun and release them in various forms. Currently, she has little control over her powers, nor does she know the extent of them. Her potential of powers include:
Force fields - By unknown means, she is able to covert solar energy into a force field to protect herself and in time, other people. She could probably only deflect food in a food fight at the moment, but in time she will be able to shield herself from gunfire or even a collapsing building. The field seems to appear when she is startled and will take some practice for her to be able to summon it at will.
Energy blasts- She is able to focus the energy to make both fine LASER-like beams and concussive energy blasts. All she has to do is focus her energy and aim. A great amount of energy will yield in a blast, while a smaller amount of energy will result in the light beam. So far, she has managed some dinky beams on her own, but the concussive blasts are still unknown to her.
Flight - She also has the potential to use the energy to propel herself in flight. Now, it's nothing like that of the Beaubier's by any means. It does not grant her super speed flight, nor all the agility that goes with it. At the most, she will probably be able to top sixty or so miles per hour without risking damage to her own body.
Her powers are limited by the amount of solar energy she has stored in her body. Once the energy has been drained, she is rendered powerless until her body is able to recharge, so to speak. This could take a matter of minutes on an extremely bright day and a few hours if it is overcast. At night, her powers are also less effective.
The solar energy also has some interesting effects on her body. When her powers on in use, Karolina glows. Literally. Her body becomes consumed in luminous and iridescent wave of rainbow light. The colors are fluid, moving all along her figure even if she is not moving herself. With enough concentration, she can make her body return to normal form, but it often leaves her very tired and is sometimes accompanied by a headache. This was the first part of her mutation that manifested.

[edit] Personality
For the most part, Karolina can be described as a rather outgoing young girl. She is sweet, kind, and seems like the kid every parents dreams of having. Loyalty to her friends is very important, as is helping them in anyway she can. She's nice to strangers, let's little old ladies have her seat on the bus, and tells the cashier when she receives too much change. While she can be nice to a fault, Karolina doesn't see that as a bad thing. Everyone likes nice people, right? Though with recent changes in her life, she is finding it a bit hard to remain as upbeat as she was only a few months ago.
She is very passionate in the things she believes, which currently involves the environment and Going Green. Somewhat to her parent's chagrin, Karolina has thrown herself head first into this cause, officially adopting veganism, asking for a Prius and make the whole house "green". She could talk your ear off about it whether you like it or not. Whether it is volunteering or shopping second-hand to cut down on her carbon footprint, she lives and breathes her causes.
Underneath her happy exterior, Karolina feels a bit like a freak. She has recently started to accept that she is a lesbian, but being in high school doesn't make that very easy half of the time. Right now, she is in the stage where she just wants to be like everyone else and being a lesbian doesn't help achieve that. She knows that her sexuality isn't something she can change, but that doesn't make her feel any better. And to top it all off, she's recently discovered she is a mutant. Now she feels like she is doubly the freak, which is a lot for her to handle. She'll figure it out. Hopefully.
While Karolina will insist she is not a spoiled child, she actually is to an extent. Not that she throws a tantrum every time she doesn't get what she wants, mainly because she does get almost everything she wants. If she wants new clothes or shoes, that's fine. Special trip to the fancy-dancy organic supermarket? It's all good. In fact, she even has her own credit card that her parent's pay off at the end of each month. While she doesn't go around blowing her money on trips to expensive stores, she does spend her parents money without much thought.
She can also be quite sensitive. Since she throws such much of herself into things, Karolina always feels hurt when things do not completely go as planned. She has been known to cry greatly over a big failure and even worse by actions of mean people. While her parents have grown accustomed to choosing their words carefully around their daughter, not everyone has gotten the memo. She cries at movies, television shows, and even those commercials for animal shelters. Karolina tries her best to maintain her normal demeanor, but the right words or actions could definitely make her cry.
It should be noted that Karolina's parents have done their best to hide her from the spotlight. They are very careful where they go in public, doing their best to avoid photographers. They never bring her to public events and rarely talk about her in interviews. As far as they are concerned, Karolina is off limits to the media.
[edit] History
Karolina wasn't always born into the life of privilege that she enjoys today. In the beginning, her parents were newlywed and struggling actors who had just moved out to Hollywood to make it big, just like everyone else. They planned on making it big right away, but instead they had a daughter. Not what they were expecting, but they made it work as best as they could. What else could they do?
For years, her parents worked odd jobs and minor acting gigs to help pay the bills. The family was struggling just to keep their necks above the poverty line. This was pretty much the way the family lived until about the time when Karolina was ten because that fall, both of her parents caught their big break in two major blockbuster movies. Suddenly, both Frank and Leslie Dean were Hollywood's most in demand actor and actress, not to mention the hottest couple in the movie industry. Movies were being offered left and right, which basically meant they were able to pick/choose whatever project they wanted. Everything they touched seem to turn to gold.
It wasn't long before they moved to a fancy new house in Malibu and Karolina was shipped off to the fancy Harvard-Westlake School. Life continued to get better and better in every way possible, minus that loss for Leslie for the Best Supporting Actress. In her new school, Karolina flourished and everything has been hunky-dory. Well, not everything. The Deans have recently noticed that their daughter has started to withdraw just a bit from her friends, often choosing to stay home rather than attend social events. She has also started to complain of frequent headaches and muscle aches, especially while in the sun. They have taken her to the doctors, but everything thus far as come back completely normal. What they don't know is about two weeks ago, Karolina's latent mutant ability manifested while she was in the backyard working her in garden. Scared, she kept it to herself, content on letting her parents think she is just experiencing a typical teenage phase, complete with growing pains.
