Real Name:  Laura Anne Kinney.

First Appearance:  January 2009.

Age:  17. 

Relatives:  Sarah Kinney (mother, deceased), James Howlett (half-brother), Victor Creed (half-brother), Logan (unknown birth father, deceased).

Hometown:  Beauval, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Education:  Home schooled in a bible-thumping fashion.

Occupation:  None, though she has been known to use sex to get money/food/clothing.

• Enhanced strength/speed/agility/stamina/reflexes: Pretty self-explanatory. While they are nowhere near the levels of other mutants, these abilities are above those of an average girl for her age and size. She just seems to run a bit faster, pick up heavier things, dodge out of the way faster, etc. Since they aren't outwardly obvious, Laura hasn't fully realized that they are there.

• Hyper-keen senses: Way above average sight, smell, hearing, taste and touch. FUN TIMES. Just like her enhanced strength and such, she doesn't know she possesses these but does know that garbage smells really fucking bad to her/sounds sometimes hurt her ears/she sees what you did there.

• Healing factor: Laura's body repairs itself at an accelerated rate to say the very least. It is able to fight off infection, repair damage and replace dead cells rapidly. While her body can repair itself, it can't regenerate her head or a lost limb. It is unknown if it can repair damaged nerves. She is also immune to toxins and requires high amounts of drugs/alcohol in order for them to be effective. This is currently the only part of her mutation she is actively aware of possessing.

• Hand/toe claws: Due to some strange over ossification of certain bones, Laura is able to produce "bone claws" from her hands and feet. The latter extends from beside her big toe on each foot, while the former are produced between her pointer/middle and ring/pinkie fingers. These bone claws have sharp points capable of tearing through human flesh and similar substances, though they are only a little bit stronger than normal bone. It hurts like a bitch when they come extend. Currently, Laura is unaware she has these. DUN DUN DUUUUUUUN.

Laura is a rather odd girl.

Thanks to her upbringing, she is used to being alone and on her own. Society is a completely new thing to her and it is raking some time to adjust. As a result, she comes off as having some sort of problem, like the kid just ain't right. She doesn't understand or know many of the little social nuances people take for granted. SHE IS EXTREMELY AWKWARD, OK?

She loves to watch people and doesn't quite understand that blatantly STARING at people isn't a socially accepted practice. Given her upbringing, Laura wasn't exposed to people and in many ways, she finds them completely fascinated. She loves to watch them, to study them and every little thing that they do. To her, it is a form of entertainment. To others, it is just creepy and stalkerish.

Laura doesn't speak much, probably because she never really had people to talk to at home. Her mother taught her proper English, so she uses correct grammar and never uses slang. Hell, she wouldn't even know slang if it hit her on the head, so many things people say confuse her. She often takes people's comments literally as she doesn't understand sarcasm. Communication isn't her strong point.

Emotions are not Laura's friend and she comes off as being an emotionless person, but that is anything but the truth. She isn't a sociopath and is capable of having emotions, she just doesn't have very many of them. Part of this is due to her upbringing and part is due to the fact her brain has repressed many things associated with her mother's death, intense emotions included. Currently, she has trouble understanding them and processing them.

Religion no longer plays a part in her life and seems to have died along with her mother.

In conclusion, Laura is a fucking odd girl.

A long time ago (more like 16 or so years) in a galaxy far, far away (actually, it was somewhere in Saskatchewan) a young woman named Sarah Kinney arrived in the small town of Beauval, pregnant and unmarried. It was indeed quite a sight for the town of less than one thousand, but being the good and kind Christians many of them were, they took the young girl in without any questions. Sure, there was talk behind her back about what kind of woman would be pregnant and unmarried, but if she heard it, Sarah never said anything. Over the next few months, she worked odd jobs around the community and waited for the birth of her child. She also started reading the Bible and other religious literature. More on that later...

Then one day in the end of September, Sarah went into labor and twenty-three hours later, she gave birth to a little girl that she named Laura. It was a happy occasion and about a month after giving birth, the new mother and her daughter moved into a very tiny house about three miles outside of town. While it wasn't much, it was all she could afford given her situation, which probably included some government assistance.

Over the years, the town rarely saw much of Sarah and her daughter Laura save for trips to the grocery and the bank. It was a small town, complete with small town mentality, so they left the young mother alone and didn't give it much thought since it wasn't their business. Little did they know that things at the Kinney household were less than ideal. As the years passed, Sarah became more and more obsessed with her version of Christianity and as a result, she shut her and her daughter out from the world. Everything was evil, blah, blah, blah, and she had to protect her daughter from the evils of everything and its mother.

Fun.

Needless to say, Laura grew up in a pretty closed environment and her only real interaction with the outside world came from her brief trips to town or the religious station, which was the only thing on TV that she was allowed to watch. Sarah also took it upon herself to school the young girl, so she didn't have the benefit of usual social interaction. As a result, Laura grew up the epitome of an isolated child left with nothing more than her mother and own imagination to entertain her. When Laura's mutation manifested, neither her nor her mother really noticed. It just seemed that the young girl never became sick and never got hurt regardless of how rough and tumble she was around the house. Sarah couldn't believe how lucky she was to have such a wonderful child, but never in her life could she have imagined how things would turn out between the two of them.

You see, one aspect of Laura's mutation remained latent for a year or two after the initial onset and it wasn't until the February of 2007 that it finally was triggered. Laura had been complaining of joint pain in her hands and feet for a few weeks, but rather than take her to the doctor', Sarah decided that they would just pray the pain away as usual. However, it turned out the joint pain was her bone claws developing and that night, they manifested while Laura was sleeping and she woke up screaming with shards of bone sticking out of her hands and feet. She understandably woke her mother, who ran to her daughter's bedroom to find her bloody and bony, screaming bloody murder the entire time.

Naturally, Sarah believed her daughter to be possessed by some evil entity and rather than comfort her, she immediately decided that the girl must be exorcised. It was all very logical. So grabbing her daughter by her hair, Sarah began to drag her out of room and down the hall with Laura screaming and flailing the entire time. She probably called her demon spawn in there somewhere, among other things. Her mother then tried to hoist Laura up into a chair in order to start God knows what, but as her daughter flailed away she ended up stabbing Sarah in the stomach with a bone claw on her hand. Letting go of her daughter, Sarah fell to the floor and over a course of minutes, she sanguinated to death on the kitchen floor as Laura sat next to her crying. Everything went black after that.

The next thing Laura remembers is getting out of a truck in Santa Monica, California. In her bag she found an envelope full of money, some razors, rather racy panties and a receipt from a McDonald's in Reno, Nevada. She has no fucking clue how she got to California.
