[edit] Powers
- Hot knives: Pete's mutation allows him to absorb ambient heat and solar radiation, and then release said energy in projectiles from his fingertips, which he fondly refers to as 'hot knives'. These knives exist in a semi-solid and are pure thermal energy. While he claims they are as hot as the surface of the sun, nothing has even been proven. He has fairly decent control over the knives when it comes to not having them randomly fire off at any given moment. However, in times of extreme emotion, he has been known to burn/melt things on "accident". His aim with his knives also isn't entirely accurate and he can only hit the target about 50% of the time. The other 50%? Well, duck and cover is always a good option.
[edit] Appearance
Height: 6'0"
Hair: Brown.
Eye color: Blue.
Build: Not too big and not too small.
Distinguishing features: His accent. Yes, that doesn't have anything to do with his physical appearance, but Pete says it distinguishes him.
Style: Jeans. Tees. Button down shirts. While he isn't much for clothes, Pete always looks presentable and always makes sure his hair is nicely styled.
[edit] Personality
Pete comes off as being a personable young man. He is almost always smiling (well, smirking at least), seeming to be in a good mood the majority of the time. Yes, he has his bad days, but he tends to keep them to himself and hide away until he feels better. He is also very talkative (he could probably carry on a conversation with a rock) especially the new ladies. Well, he’ll talk to the new guys as well, but the ladies get the majority of his attention. He also has a bit of a sarcastic streak, but tends to stop just short of being blatantly rude. ... OK, sometimes he means to be rude, but Pete likes to think he does it with a certain amount of finesse. He likes to pretend people think he is suave, OK? >>
He also gives the air of being confident, sometimes to the point of being a bit cocky. However, he is actually anything but that. In reality, Pete is a very insecure young man and lacks much self-confidence thanks to events with his parents. He doesn’t have much faith in anything, his mutation or basically where he is going in life and his faux confidence is a defense mechanism to keep anyone from finding the truth. So far, it seems to have worked.
He also has a bit of a temper when provoked. While he can normally take a lot of taunting or whatever, the right combination of words will cause him to react and when that happens, stuff probably ends up melted or burned.
Pete also never talks about his parents. Ever. The most contact he has had with his father over the past two years is the money he puts in his son’s bank account.
He likes complaining about America, coffee, the ladies, talking about how England is better, night walks, playing video games, smoking, his sister and late-night television. He dislikes America’s silly laws, black ink pens, the smell of alcohol and being cold.
[edit] History
Peter Paul Winston Wisdom was born in London, England to a rather… eccentric family. His father Harold was a workaholic detective sergeant and criminal profiler at New Scotland Yard, while is mother Charlotte was a freelance artist who never left the 70’s. The only reason these two actually married was that Charlotte had become pregnant with Pete’s older sister, Romany, and by all accounts, it was a mistake from the very beginning. While the pair had fun dating, neither was ready for the married life, especially to each other since in their case, opposites attracted and it stopped there.
This pretty much set the tone for Pete’s upbringing. Arguments between Harold and Charlotte were common, as were slamming doors and throwing things such as glasses. Inevitably, both parents turned to the bottle to help them cope with the home life, something that Pete associates with his childhood to this day. It was not all bad though. He has fond memories of his father taking him to his work, watching his mother paint and the one vacation his family took to the beach. There are also good memories of his sister, whom he still looks up to and idolizes.
A few months after Pete’s tenth birthday, his parents finally divorced and they were given joint custody of their children, though Charlotte did move to the small town of Hungerford. The next few years were spent between London and the small Berkshire town where his mother now resided. At the age of thirteen, his mutation manifested and given it nature, it was hard to hide from his parents, especially when he started accidentally melting plates and such. Neither of them really cared, though both urged him to avoid using them in front of people and just not speak about them to anyone outside the family. There son was a freak, but they didn't exactly want everyone else knowing, right? WHAT WOULD THE NEIGHBORS THINK?
Life went on without much of anything for almost two more years and he would have preferred it to remain that way, but apparently, fate had other plans. One day, fifteen-year-old Pete was supposed to go visit his mother for the weekend, but hours before he was supposed to leave, he got into an argument with her over the phone. He can’t remember just how it started, but Charlotte ended up ranting about how she had never loved her ex-husband and that her son was a mistake. Angry at what his mother said, Pete decided that he wasn’t going for the visit, nor was he going to inform her of this plan. Instead, he went to hang out with some friends, all the while his mother still thinking he was coming to visit. As her son sat in the theater watching some raunchy comedy, Charlotte Wisdom was struck by a car who had run a red light as she made her way to the bus station to wait for her son. She died on the scene.
The death of his mother hit Pete hard, especially since it happened as she was going to pick him up for the visit he had blown-off. Not surprisingly, he blamed himself for her death, believing if he had just told her he wasn’t showing up, she would still be alive. Sadly, his father also blamed him for the death of his mother and made no attempts to hide his feelings. Life at the Wisdom home in London became increasingly tense and arguments were once again commonplace, though this time it was between father and son. Not surprisingly, Pete retreated to his room where he spent his time counting down the days until he turned sixteen, but also researching mutants. He finally found his answers out in California and a plan was hatched. The day after he turned sixteen, Pete bought a plane ticket to American using his father's credit card, stole some of his money and sold some of his mother’s jewelry before hoping the plane to New York City.
The rest is that cliche history.
