  • Force field shield. Sally has a personal protective shield that provides total protection from all physical attacks. Her force field has unique frictionless properties that make it impossible for anyone to hold on to her, so she can't be grabbed or entangled in anything. If she concentrates hard enough then Sally can extend the force field to protect others around her. Whilst at present she is only protected from physical assaults, in the future Sally should be able to protect herself from bullets and the powers of other mutants, such as lightning strikes or laser beams.

[edit] Personality

Despite her less than stellar upbringing, Sally always tends to believe the best in people and it can be very hard to convince her to do otherwise. She has a rare quality which allows her to see only the good things in those around her and unless directly confronted with a person's bad points, she probably won't even notice them. Without concrete and undeniable evidence to the contrary, she will always assume that a person is good and give them the benefit of the doubt no matter what anyone else says. In Sally's world the glass is always half-full and lemonade is always made from lemons, as it's simply in her nature to look on the positive side. Of course her optimistic attitude and Mary Sunshine act can be slightly over bearing at times, as Sally never really knows when to take the hint and let someone moan.

Of course the downside of her impulse to put her faith in strangers and keep everyone happy is that Sally can be a complete pushover. She doesn't quite know how to say the word 'no' to anyone and will bend over backwards to please a friend or make someone like her. Even when her trust is betrayed, Sally will have no problem giving someone a second chance because everyone deserves at least that. However, if she's continually taken advantage of or made a fool, she'll have no trouble telling the person exactly what she thinks of them. Sweet and trusting Sally might be, but at the end of the day she's no fool and only human. Push past her breaking point and she'll tell you exactly what she thinks of you and can be surprisingly feisty.

[edit] History

Sally was born in Santa Monica, California as the only daughter of Matilda and Bill Blevins, a nurse and cop respectively. Their marriage was far from trouble free, thanks mostly to Bill's temper and tendency to over indulge in alcohol. From the moment the vows were said Bill started to hit his wife on a regular basis over the smallest of things; the dinner wasn't warm enough, the baby wouldn't stop crying, the kitchen was a mess etc. Not wanting anyone to find out about it, at first Matilda managed to get hospital treatment off the books thanks to a friend in the emergency room. However when the beatings began to get worse and she realised Bill wasn't about to stop anytime soon, Matilda then decided to press charges. Of course the cops who took her statements would always 'lose' the reports so there was never anything on record about the abuse. For her part Sally mostly tried to stay out of her father's way whenever he was home and at the request of her mom, never said anything about what was going on at home.

Things might have continued on this way if Bill hadn't made the big mistake of raising his hand to Sally when she was thirteen. Matilda completely freaked out and decided that was the final straw, smashing a liquor bottle over her husband's head and telling him that their marriage was over. Sally was too stunned to say or do anything other than what her mom told her to, and so quietly packed a bag and left home with Matilda. The pair moved into a women's shelter in the next town and actually managed to live under the radar for a few months. Unfortunately Bill eventually managed to track them down and turned up at the shelter acting like the perfect gentleman, claiming he'd kicked the booze and was a different person. Needless to say Matilda wasn't convinced but knew she didn't have much of a choice since he'd always have the resources to find them, so she and Sally reluctantly moved back home.

The first few weeks as a family went by smoothly enough but the illusion of the perfect husband was shattered when Bill came home drunk after work. He started in on Matilda like normal only for her to right back, no longer willing to be his punching bag. Unfortunately Bill was a lot stronger and had no problem pushing Matilda off, although he didn't quite mean to shove her down the stairs. Asleep in bed, Sally woke up because of the noise and wandered out into the hallway only to find her mother lying at the bottom of the stairs, and her father crouched over her. The coroner later determined that Matilda had broken her neck during the fall and died instantly in what was, officially, an accident. No charges were pressed against Bill because he was seen to be an upstanding citizen, a hard working cop and had no criminal record to speak of. Sally wisely kept her mouth shut about what she thought had happened because her dad scared her. And she didn't want to end up at the bottom of a staircase like her mom.

Shortly after the Blevins downsized from the house to a two bedroom apartment and Bill continued to get drunk on a regular basis. It was usually Sally's job to clean him up and put him to bed, which was never an easy task, and she frequently overslept and missed school because of it. It wasn't long either until Bill started taking his frustrations out on her too, claiming that Sally was too stupid, too lazy, too fat, looked too much like her mother etc, etc. The black eyes and broken bones went mostly unnoticed by the teachers at school and whilst Sally had plenty of friends, she didn't feel comfortable opening up about the abuse. Instead she suffered in silence and counted down the days till she could leave for college.

Just after she turned fifteen Bill took things a little too far and gave Sally a particularly bad beating. It was during this that she put a hand up to defend herself and, at long last, her mutant powers finally manifested. When Bill tried to land another blow on her face he couldn't, the punch was deflected thanks to the protective force field around his daughter. Not knowing exactly what she was but realizing that this wasn't an opportunity to ignore, Sally finally stood up to her father and told him to leave her alone. Following in the footsteps of her mother she packed a bag and ran away, this time for good.
