[edit] Powers

Aerokinetics. Through metal control, she can manipulate air molecules and direct air currents. She has a fairy decent control over some aspects of her mutation thanks to her mother's encouragement. These include:

● Ability to speed up/slow down air currents. She is able to create gusts of wind that can cause damage to her surrounding environment and also slow down said winds. Other than the time in her father's store, she has mainly used this to fly kites and to cool down the house. Sofia doesn't really enjoy using her powers to cause harm to others.

● Amplify and carry sound waves. Basically, she can use the wind to carry far away sounds to her. If you are across the city, it won't do any good, but she can definitely carry whispers from down the hall.

● Air compression. Sofia is able to compress the air in a person's ear. This disrupts there equilibrium, which throws off their balance for a few seconds. Very handy when dealing with bullies or assholes!

While she does have control over some of her mutation, other parts... not so much. Those aspects are:

● Flight. Oh, she has tried to get her flight under control, but it just won't work. Sofia can get the air current just right to lift her off the ground and that is about it. After that, she wiggles and she wobbles before finally falling back to the ground. She's managed to get three feet off the ground at the most, but other than that, she hasn't gone far. It's not like she can ask many people for help here.

● Lifting and moving objects. Just like she can in theory lift herself off the ground, she can also in theory lift other objects and people. Yeah. That works about as well as her attempts to fly. When it comes to this skill, the most she has been able to do is life one of her Harry Potter books. Yeah. That's really not much help in a fight.

[edit] Personality

Despite some major set backs in her life, Sofia is actually a happy and outgoing young lady. She always has a smile on her face, laughs constantly, and can carry on a conversation with anyone, up to and probably including a rock. In the hotel, she says hello to anyone she passes in the halls and in school, she involves herself in a variety of activities. She loves the friends she has and loves making new friends. It is safe to say that when anyone new arrives at the hotel, Sofia is one of the first people they meet as she makes it her duty to welcome everyone personally, even if they don't really want it. Some might say she is overly people pleasing, but she does not see that as a bad thing.

Speaking of her friends, she is extremely loyal to them. She will stick by them through thick and thin. Well. If they do something completely terrible, Sofia would have to reconsider things, but she would at least listen to their point of view. Thanks to her loyalty, she will stick by her friends in a fight and stick up for them to other people. She doesn't take kindly to people treating her friends badly. Heck, she doesn't take kindly to people treating anyone badly.

Sofia won't take shit from people. If someone says something against her, she will say something right back. She is not the type of girl to just sit back and take whatever people throw at her. She is also not afraid to speak up and give her opinion, though she will do it in a nice manner and listen to the other side. Most of the time. This isn't to say that she can take anything and let it all slide off her back. Everyone has her limits, even her.

While she is very good at keeping her cool, there are times when she becomes extremely emotional. Hello wrecking her father's store! It takes a lot to get her to that point, but once she is there, people should watch out. She will just from nice and sweet to emotional teenager before you can even blink your eyes. At these times, it isn't uncommon for her to lash out with a quick gust of wind or her little ear pressure trick.

She can also hold a grudge like no one's business. If you wrong her or her friends, you are on her Naughty List and it will take a lot of work to be taken off it.

Thanks mainly to her father, Sofia is a perfectionist. She studies very hard so she can get the best grades and she doesn't slack on school projects. She keeps practicing her powers so she can get better. Her perfectionist attitude even extends to her work at the diner when it comes to making sure orders are just right and that her work area is spotless.

[edit] History

Sofia was born to a single mother named Miranda near Caracas, Venezuela, though she did have a rather large extended family. From a young age, she was aware that her father had been a wealthy American business man who had wined/dined her mother all the way into bed never to be seen again, but it was really no big deal to Sofia or her family. She was loved and cared for, so it was all good to her.

Growing up, things were great. When her mutation manifested at age twelve, her mother took it in stride and made sure her daughter understood that it was not a curse, but rather a gift and not to let anyone ever tell her otherwise. The rest of her family also became aware of Sofia's mutation, but thanks to her mother, they didn't treat her any different. It really was a good life, but sadly things cannot stay that way forever.

One afternoon, Miranda went into the city to buy her daughter a gift and was caught in the middle of a gang fight, where she was shot and killed by a stray bullet. Sofia and one of her cousins were out flying a kite on a hill when her uncle received the news, though the wind carried it and her uncle's verbal unwillingness to take her in up the hill to her ears. Well then. That sucked to say the very least. It wasn't that her uncle didn't love her or anything, but he didn't feel he had the willpower to raise such a "special" child like his sister.

So after her mother's funeral, Sofia was put on a plane to Bolder, Colorado, where she met her biological father, American businessman Walter Barrett. It wasn't surprisingly that Walter didn't really have time for a daughter, nor did he really care to make time for her. And to make matters worse, she was some freak who could control the wind. Needless to say, her father kept her at a distance and basically left her in the care of his butler/driver, Derek. Technically, it could have been worse, but it could have been a lot better as well. In the end, all the her father asked was she learned English before entering school, got perfect grades and under no circumstances would she use her mutant powers. If she did all this, she would be taken care of financially.

Well, Sofia did learn English before she entered school and she did stop using her mutant powers (or at least she told him that, not that Walter would have noticed). When school started up, she was excited and eager to make new friends, but the students at the expensive private school her father picked had other thoughts. They made fun over her for her cheery attitude and her thick accent, so it didn't take long for Sofia to become completely miserable and withdraw socially. While she excelled in school, she had no friends and the only person she really talked to was Derek. He was nice and took care of her, but a young girl should really have better friends than her father's hired help.

This was how things went until one day, he father forgot about her birthday. It really wasn't surprisingly considering how he had been treating her, but it was the final straw and something in the young girl just snapped. Instead of going to school, she boarded a public bus and went down to the store her father was at for the day. Sofia then calmly walked into the store, situated herself right inside the busy entrance, and let her wind powers go at full speed. For a couple minutes, she wrecked havoc on the store until finally, she collapsed from exhaustion. Unsure of what exactly happened and what to do about it, Sofia was taken to a local hospital where a private police officer stood outside her room thanks to her father. Thankfully, a nice stranger came and rescued her, taking her to Santa Monica were she met others like her. Her father told everyone she ran away from home. Good riddance.
